Driving all the way to Colorado Springs from Denver we weren’t going to just stop after spending time exploring the gift shop and the Garden of the Gods visitors center so we decided to drive around and see what we could find.

Garden of the Gods Park is a registered National Natural Landmark.  There is 1,300 acres of sandstone formations.  Some are even 300′ tall! Plus a backdrop of snow-capped Pikes Peak and of course Colorado blue skies.

The park offers a world-class Visitor & Nature Center,  The museum is the most visited attraction in the region with interactive exhibits. You can even learn how the red rocks got there with the NEW Geo-Trekker theater experience, shown every 20 minutes.

You can explore the park in a few ways.  Car is probably the most popular (that’s how we did it).  But you can get caught up in traffic. The park offers Jeep and Segway Tours.  But I think the most fun would be to see it on bikes.  They even offer electric ones if you don’t want to pedal.

We drove around and found a few cool formations but most places were crazy busy.  Finally after a decent amount of exploring we found a hike and even saw some kids scaling the side of a mountain.

It’s crazy that it took us 8 years to get here.  People have been telling us to go see it since we moved here but I’ve only been to Colorado Springs one other time for work and there wasn’t a lot of time for sightseeing.

There is actually a lot more here that I thought.  Obviously the rocks, but the visitor center is cool and there are a few areas where you can walk around.  We saw people rock climbing in the first visitor area and it even had a built in  amphitheater.

I will say that if you’re looking for an outdoor adventure that is cheap and family friendly make sure to check out Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.  It will be worth it, even if it’s only for the pictures.
